The Little Houses Improvement Scheme (LHIS) was set up in 1960 by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) to promote the conservation of smaller buildings of merit and character. Neglected buildings are acquired by the Trust, restored to high standards and then sold on the open market.
In Falkland, LHIS activity took the form of two overlapping phases of work in the 1960s and 1970s.[1]
The following houses in Falkland have been restored under the scheme:[2]
- The Haven, Back Wynd
- Brunton House, Brunton Street
- LIttle Brunton, Brunton Street
- Wester Brunton House, Brunton Street
- The Corrie (formerly Westfield), Cross Wynd
- Fountain House, High Street
- Saddler's House, High Street
- The Weaver's Cottage, High Street
- Thatched Cottage (also Peggie's House), 52 High Street West
- Weaver's Cottage (Horsemarket) (formerly Collins House), corner of Horsemarket & Back Wynd
- Sharp's Close
