Back Dykes

Back Dykes is a street, or rather lane, immediatedly to the south of the dyke, or wall, that partly marks the southern bourndary of the old Royal Burgh, and also the current conservation area. Historically there were very few houses facing onto Back Dykes: beyond the wall were the old cemetery and the back gardens of houses in the High Street.

Back Dykes has given its name to a modern develoment, Back Dykes Terrace.
