The Falkland Society was founded in 1975, as the Falkland Preservation Society, changing its name around 1988; it became a Scottish Registered Charity (registration number SC017201) in March of that year.
The Charity's object is: "To generate an interest in our town by encouraging the preservation of historical features and promoting interest in the cultural, social, and working life of the community in the past and in the presesnt."
The Society has published a number of books, including:
- A Falkland Guide
- Falkland during the reign of Queen Victoria 1837–1900
- The Stones of Falkland
- Playfair and Burgess, Falkland and its people 1901–1913
